How Coloured Belt Reviews Work

Regular progress checkpoints that show how a student is developing and what to work on next.

What to do now: Keep training regularly. Open your child’s record in the Members Area to see which Review they are working towards and whether it is available to book. Check progress

How Coloured Belt Reviews work

Once a student becomes a coloured belt, Reviews become regular checkpoints through the training year.

You do not need to calculate progress yourself. Open your child’s member record and look for their Review progress and available bookings. The Members Area is the source of truth for their current stage.
  1. Train regularly

    Regular attendance builds Review progress.

  2. Unlock and book

When progress is complete, book and purchase the Review in the Members Area.

  3. Attend the Review

Take part in the separate, supportive Review session.

  4. Find out your progress

Receive a Pass, Merit or Distinction result and feedback on what to work on next.

  5. Move to the next Review

After attendance, progress begins again towards the next Review.

The cycle repeats: keep training through each Review until the required Reviews for the training year are complete.

Advanced belt training

Blue Belt and above: expected to train at least twice each week.

Brown Belt and above: expected to train at least three times each week.

Expectations increase because technical and progression requirements increase.

Training year: 1 September to 31 August. Review progress begins fresh each new training year. Historical Reviews and previously achieved belts remain part of the member’s record.

What happens next?

  1. Reviews complete

The required Reviews have been recorded.

  2. Invitation details follow

Where eligible, separate information identifies the relevant Belt Promotion or Competition event.

  3. Book and purchase

Follow the information in the Members Area.

  4. Promotion or Competition

    Attend the separately booked event.

Completing the required Reviews contributes towards the progression process. Where the member is eligible, separate information will identify whether the next event is a Belt Promotion or a Competition. These are different events; parents should book only the event shown for their child.
