What happens at a child’s first martial arts class?

Published: · By ZKS Martial Arts

Quick answer

A first ZKS trial is an introduction to the class, not a test. Book a suitable session, wait for confirmation and follow the first-class checklist so your child knows what to expect.

Before leaving home

Check the confirmed venue, date and start time. Comfortable sports clothing and a labelled water bottle are suitable for a normal trial. Remove jewellery and follow any programme-specific instructions in your confirmation. Read the Help Centre guide for the full clothing, arrival and safety details.

During the lesson

The instructor explains what to do. A typical lesson includes a warm-up, demonstration and supervised activities suited to the group. Your child should tell the instructor if they do not understand, feel unwell or need a break. No previous experience is expected.

After the trial

Talk about what your child tried and how they felt about the class. There is a maximum of two attended trials, subject to capacity. If continuing, complete membership and Direct Debit setup before the next session. Spectator arrangements differ by class; check them before assuming you can remain to watch.
