Learn by helping

A chance to make a difference

The Leadership Team gives young ZKS members experience of supporting Mini Ninjas and Junior MA classes. You will assist an instructor, help younger students build confidence and develop your own leadership skills through regular practice.

Find your voice

Practise explaining techniques, listening carefully and encouraging someone who needs a little help.

Set an example

Develop patience, reliability and responsibility as younger members learn from your attitude.

Grow as a coach

Gain experience with guidance from your instructor, taking on more responsibility as you develop.

What will you do?

Help demonstrate techniques, support individual students, assist with partner work and help the instructor organise activities.

You will always work under the instructor’s direction. You will never be left responsible for children or a class on your own.

A commitment that fits

Agree at least one regular 45-minute Mini Ninjas or Junior MA session each week. Where the timetable allows, this could be immediately before your own Teen MA training.

Helping is voluntary and unpaid. It is separate from your own training sessions. Reliability matters, and we understand that school, illness and family commitments sometimes affect attendance.

The ZKSMA legacy

Developing the next generation of coaches

Our aim is to build a lasting ZKSMA legacy by helping today’s members become tomorrow’s coaches and, eventually, lead instructors. The Leadership Team is the beginning of that pathway: a place to discover the enjoyment of teaching, develop your skills and help the next generation of martial artists grow.

For members who want to take it further, we aim to provide a pathway to turn a hobby and pastime they love into a potential future income stream. Through experience, guidance and continued development, martial arts could become a rewarding part of their working life.

01

Leadership Team

Begin with a voluntary, supervised placement. Build confidence, communication and coaching skills by supporting younger members.

02

Assistant Instructor

Suitable members may be considered for paid Assistant Instructor opportunities from age 16, continuing to learn alongside experienced instructors.

03

Future Lead Instructor

When our young adults are ready to take the next step, we will give them the resources, practical experience and guidance to run their own ZKS MA classes in an area that works for them.

We will help them build experience in planning and leading sessions, supporting students and managing the responsibilities of running a class. The aim is to give them the confidence and support to develop their own classes while remaining part of ZKS MA.

This creates an opportunity to pass on their love of martial arts, build a local community of students and develop a potential income stream around their own circumstances and ambitions.

Progression depends on each member’s development, suitability and the opportunities available. Leadership Team membership does not guarantee a paid role or future income.

Interested in joining?

The new intake is for Teen MA members in Years 9 and 10 who are Purple belt or above. We look at each application alongside the instructor’s knowledge of the member, including maturity, attitude and reliability.

Selected members begin with an introductory period so that the member, their family and ZKS can see how the placement works for everyone.

We send the Leadership Team application form out at the beginning of the training year. The young person should complete their answers in their own words, with a parent or guardian confirming their support. If you have any questions, contact us through the Members Area.
