Built for your first day—not fight night
A welcoming route into adult BJJ from age 16.
Everyone begins together. You will be shown how to move safely, practise at a sensible pace and build confidence without being dropped into an established adult class.
We understand that moving from teen classes into an adult environment can be difficult. With nearly 30 years of experience working with children and young people, ZKS knows how to combine growing independence with the structure, boundaries and support a 16- or 17-year-old may still need.
- No need to be fit, flexible or experienced before you start
- Traditional Gi foundations with clear demonstrations and coached drills
- Controlled, non-striking training with no pressure to “win”
- Skills that prepare you for No-Gi and the grappling phases of MMA
Standard course price: £250
Book and pay between 1–31 August 2026 to receive £100 off the complete 12-week course. Your training Gi is included.

Meet your coach
Experienced enough to teach. Patient enough to start at the beginning.
Sensei Ben Babbington is the founder and head instructor of ZKS Martial Arts and a 1st Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt.
Ben has nearly 30 years of experience working with children, teenagers and adults. His role on this course is to make the unfamiliar feel manageable: explain each skill clearly, set an appropriate pace and help every beginner feel that they belong on the mats.

Questions before you book
Good to know.
Do I need any martial arts experience?
No. This programme is specifically designed for complete beginners. We start with safety, movement and the basic positions before gradually building your skills.
Is the course suitable for someone aged 16 or 17?
Yes. The course is designed for ages 16+ and provides a supported introduction to an adult training environment. With nearly 30 years of experience working with children and young people, we understand that this transition needs the right structure, expectations and coaching. A parent or guardian is welcome to speak to us before booking.
Do I need to get fit first?
No. You can begin at your current level and build fitness through training. You’ll be encouraged to work at a sensible pace and speak to a coach if you need to adjust anything.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable sports clothing without zips, jewellery or sharp parts. Your full joining information and any uniform arrangements will be confirmed after booking.
Is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi included?
Yes. Your training Gi is included in the course price. We will arrange your size after booking so that you can start with the uniform and information you need.
How will I receive course updates?
After payment, you will be given a private invitation to the beginners course WhatsApp group. We will use it for course reminders, practical updates and helping the new group get ready for the first session.
Will this help if I eventually want to train No-Gi or MMA?
Yes. Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu develops the positional control, escapes, submissions and movement that carry into No-Gi submission grappling. These are also valuable foundations for the grappling phases of MMA. This particular beginners course does not include striking or claim to be a complete MMA programme.
What if I have an injury or medical condition?
Complete the relevant section of the registration form and speak to us before your first session. We can then discuss whether any reasonable adjustments are appropriate.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Yes, provided you cancel before the course has started. Cancellations follow our ZKS Martial Arts Event Cancellation Policy. Once the course has started, no refund is available.
What happens after the 12 weeks?
We’ll help you register on the ZKS Members Portal, set up your monthly Direct Debit and get you ready to move straight into the regular Havoc Grappling classes with the other members.
