Samuel Rumsey
Assistant Instructor Β· Watford
Meet Samuel
Junior Black Belt in Taijutsu Β· Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
How my martial arts journey began
I began martial arts in 2013, when I was six. My parents wanted me to develop discipline and restraint, and to find a constructive way to manage my frustrations. Learning to avoid conflict was an important reason for starting.
I attended the school where the Watford classes were held and heard about ZKS from classmates. I have since achieved my Junior Black Belt in Taijutsu and my Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Growing into an assistant instructor
I joined the first Watford Leadership Team in 2019 and became an assistant instructor to Sensei James in 2024. Having trained alongside James under Sensei Tim, watching him achieve his black belt and become an instructor inspired me to follow that path.
I now support Little Dragons, Mini Ninjas and Junior Martial Arts in Watford. I particularly enjoy seeing students I have worked with for years progress towards their black belts or join the Leadership Team themselves.
My approach to teaching
Working with Sensei James has strongly influenced my teaching style. I also bring the firm guidance and discipline that I experienced when learning under Sensei Tim.
Beyond martial arts techniques, I hope students learn restraint and develop a desire to avoid conflict away from the mats whenever possible.
