Spectators

Before attending

1. Read the event page or invitation carefully.
2. Complete the spectator form or booking step where one is required.
3. Check the student's event record or confirmation; submitting a request does not necessarily guarantee a place.
4. Confirm the venue, arrival time and number of spectators permitted.
5. Contact ZKS in advance if an accessibility adjustment or support arrangement is needed.

Who may attend?

Where spectator places are limited, ZKS commonly allows one spectator per student or competitor so that as many families as possible can attend. The event information will confirm the actual allowance.

Partners, grandparents and other relatives count towards that allowance. Younger siblings, babies and additional family members should not be brought unless the event information permits them or ZKS has agreed this in advance.

Any decision about an unbooked or additional spectator rests with the instructor or event team and depends on capacity, safety, safeguarding and class or event control.

At the venue

• Arrive at the stated time and follow the ZKS team's directions.
• Remain in the designated spectator area unless a member of staff invites you elsewhere.
• Some spectator areas are on the mats. Be prepared to remove your shoes and wear clean, suitable socks.
• Seating may be limited, so you may need to stand or sit on the mats.
• Do not eat or drink on the mats; water may be permitted where the venue instructions allow it.
• Keep exits, walkways and competition or training areas clear.

Venue arrangements differ, so follow the event-specific information if it differs from this general guidance.

Support your child positively

Parents and carers are encouraged to applaud, reassure and celebrate students appropriately. Please do not coach from the side, shout technical instructions, interrupt an instructor or official, or enter the activity area unless invited.

Keeping instructions with the ZKS team helps students concentrate and ensures that competitions, presentations and demonstrations remain safe and fair.

Photos, video and social media

Follow the photography instructions for the particular event. During Belt Promotion Week, instructors may provide a specific opportunity to photograph your child receiving their belt without other students being included unnecessarily.

Only photograph or share images of your own child unless you have permission from the parent or carer of every other identifiable child. Do not obstruct the event, enter the activity area or disregard a request from staff in order to take a photograph.

Spectator conduct

• Keep noise and movement to a level that does not distract students.
• Treat competitors, students, families, instructors and officials respectfully.
• Accept referee, judge and instructor decisions.
• Follow venue, safeguarding and safety instructions promptly.

Regular classes and Parent Open Days

An invitation to watch one event does not provide permission to watch normal classes. Read the Spectator Policy for the regular-class rule and the limited first-trial exception.

Parent Open Days are participatory sessions rather than spectator events. Parents and carers are invited onto the mats to experience suitable activities and learn how they can support safe practice at home. Follow the separate Open Day information when one is announced.
